Default Good-Bye Pontiac

All the conversation about the likely end of Pontiac reminds me of an oh-so-eloquent eulogy former IndustryWeek writer Doug Bartholomew wrote when Oldsmobile got the pink slip.

It's worth a read.

Thumbs down Re: Good-Bye Pontiac

I disagree with some of the articles assertions about Pontiac.

From my seat they were just starting to get it right. The G6 finally turned into the Grand Am,Grand Prix replacement we all wanted. The Vibe filled a growing niche. Althought not selling as well, the G8 was received to critical acclaim and still remains the benchmark in the mid size sedan segment in terms of performance to value (the Hyundai Genesis obviously taking the luxury crown).

Instead of retaining two customers (my wife & myself) by killing this brand and keeping Buick??? (c'mon, besides Tiger & the Enclave its got NOTHING) GM will lose us to another car brand.

Be Ware - I have travelled to China a few times. Upon return people always ask for my impressions. One is always how much pollution you see in the countryside (trash in fields etc), the other was how many Buicks you see everywhere. After VW, the most common car I saw was Buick, Audi was as also very popular.

My guess is that GM is willing to give up you and your wife (and a few others) for the potential millions and millions in China??

@bradintx,

That would be the most logical explanation I've heard.

If GM thinks Buick can win China, from a busines perspective I'd give up on me and my wife too.

Hope they are right, because we (and many other Americans) won't be here waiting if their plan backfires.
