Default Just Make it in the USA

Re: The Competitive Edge -- Bridging the Divide Between Wall Street and Main Street

The absolute fastest way to re-establish our American industrial superiority is to manufacture in the United States. How simple. Why hasn't anyone else thought of this? It's not complicated. Buy a building.

1. Put in machines. Hire people. Purchase raw material. Ship products to waiting customers which the companies must already have from their foreign operations.

2. Convince Uncle Sam to purchase its military needs from the U.S. manufacturers first.

3. Convince Wall street to look long term, not just 13 weeks (next quarter results)in advance.

4. Look back 10 years and think of the drubbing the auto industry would have taken from Wall Street for switching to smaller, fuel efficient cars.

5. Now look forward 10 years and imagine that U.S. manufacturing again reigns supreme and our economy is again a three legged stool. i.e. government - retail - manufacturing.

Wow - A stable, fully employed workforce, producing goods which benefit the U.S. economy and stabilize our balance of trade, reduce our national debt and provide promise for our young people.

It is indeed just that simple.

Sadly - economic policy that favors the financial sector over mfg, trade policy that favors foreign producers over domestics and a total lack of a coherent industrial policy that all other industrial nations have have prevented such common sense approaches to sustainable economies, innovation and shared prosperity.

One can not build a sustainable economy on borrowing money from foreign countries to buy imported goods, while exporting non processed nor non value added raw materials - this is what colonies do

Nor can one build a sustainable economy on financial gimmicks and ponzi schemes.

Many economists and fiancial experts are finally waking up to the fact that you can not borrow your way to prosperity, you must produce your way to prosperity.

The whole premise of globalization and trade is being exposed for what it really was - a way for multinationals to exploit cheap labor and skirt regulations.

All modern nations built their power on the strength of their mfg sectors. One of our founders, Alexander Hamilton, knew that a countries prosperity and security depends on the strenght of its mfg base. Why else would the BRIC countries with thier phenomenal growth be so aggressively building up their mfg capacity and infrastructure? It isn't rocket science. They understand that innovation and technological edges come largely from the ability to produce, a fading memory here in the states.

It's not "Just make it in the USA"; but "just make it in MY state, MY district, MY city" so MY constituents can get at the money trough!! Just remember the deal with the USAF replacement for the KC-135. Good USA jobs went for not because Washington State was going to lose out to Georgia, now the government gets to waste more time (money) doing it all over again. Remember there are only two elected offices in this whole country that look out for the USA as a whole...president and vice-president. Every other office holder has a more narrow view and ventures beyond only at their job's peril.
