Re: Union Rejects Ford Concessions Deal
Here here. I used to work at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA a few years back, and Toyota decided recently to shut it down. It was their first factory in the US, and the only one to have UAW representation. Japanese and German factory workers have been agreeing to wage DECREASES for the past several years now, even ahead of the financial crisis. Both of the those countries have a much better capacity to think long than people here. So, Ford posts a profit in ONE quarter, and the UAW decides to sabotage the only American auto company with a fighting chance to survive this economic maelstrom. The UAW, and American culture in general, needs to change, and it will, but we're going to have to suffer for a while before it happens. This is going to be a long road.
