Couldn't agree more. Our current pattern of ownership (large distant thrid parties who have no history or do not contribute to the daily running of the business) is driving us way off in the wrong direction.

Maybe the government can come up with a strategy that increases employee ownership of companies or limits on third party ownership.

Better still maybe some enlightened large firm can make sure that it always has a certain number of employees from various levels of its company on its board of directors. Maybe they could throw in a local community representative too.
