In regards to Sue Bingham's article, Use Your Best Assets To Reduce Turnover, she is right on target. We have been using hiring teams for the past ten years, and it has made major improvements to our turnover rate. I will mention a couple. First, in a high speed production environment it is extremely important that the candidate know exactly what the job entails. No one can describe that better than someone operating in that function. Secondly, when peers come together and collectively make a decision to hire an individual, there will be more ownership for that person once they become part of the team. The hiring teams naturally check on the new folks to assure they have everything they need and receive all the training that is required. We have had many positive cultural changes in our workforce. Employee involvement through hiring teams has been one of the most impactful of all. Employees feel trusted that they get to make the decisions, accountability is much higher, workers take ownership of the new person, and the cost savings are enormous. Our turnover went from high in the double digits to less than 4%! Your #1 asset will definitely drive down your turnover.
